About The Book
At 27, Alma is a drifter running away from his strict Mormon upbringing in Utah, trading church pews for the dusty roads of the 1970s American West. His life becomes a series of high-stakes adventures and hard lessons. In Colorado, he’s a logger caught in the middle of a town takeover. In Wyoming, he joins an oil crew where the beer flows as fast as the work, until a sudden tragedy changes everything. Eventually, in the neon lights of Nevada, he befriends John, a Native American railroad worker whose past is just as troubled as his own.
Each time his world falls apart, Alma finds himself spiraling back home to Salt Lake City and his best friend, Emily. He is a man of few words, but he is a great listener. By gathering the stories of the outcasts and dreamers he meets, Alma finally begins to draw the “lines” of who he really is. It’s a story of murder, conspiracy, and the search for a place to call home.
